Red Necked Phalarope

At Inishkea North, Paul spotted  the red necked phalarope. These are rare in Ireland with only 3 pairs known, all at one site in Donegal.

A habitat they love, a small freshwater marsh. Inishkea North.

ID guide, from the Arctic Wildlife book.

Their details can be difficult to make out

We found two pairs, at two marshes.

The tiny and delicate phalarope, by summer a wader in fresh & saltwater marshes, winters over far out on the Atlantic.
